The Ogham Alphabet

The Ogham alphabet is Ireland's oldest known writing system, dating back over 1,500 years. Traditionally carved into standing stones, its distinctive lines were used to record names and commemorate important people and places.

Today, Evermore Stones keeps this ancient tradition alive by engraving personalised names and meaningful words onto authentic Irish stone, creating handcrafted keepsakes inspired by Ireland's rich heritage.

How Do Modern Names Work in Ogham?

Conas a oibríonn ainmneacha nua-aimseartha in Ogham?

Because Ogham was created for the early Irish language, not every modern English letter has a direct equivalent.

When creating your personalised Ogham stone, names and words are carefully adapted using accepted Ogham conventions while preserving their pronunciation wherever possible.

If a spelling requires a slight adjustment, I'll always ensure it remains true to both the ancient alphabet and your chosen name.

Every translation is completed with care before being engraved onto authentic Irish stone.

Ogham Today

Although Ogham is no longer used as an everyday writing system, it remains one of Ireland's most recognisable symbols of heritage. Today, the ancient alphabet appears in museums, heritage sites, artwork, jewellery, and handcrafted keepsakes, helping to preserve a tradition that has survived for more than fifteen centuries.

At Evermore Stones, I'm proud to continue that story by creating personalised Ogham stone gifts that celebrate love, family, milestones, and the people who matter most.
